Nosferatu...a dark film by Werner Herzog ....

To Castle Dracula

A coach and horses did appear
Black drapes the windows cover
Picked up Harker to drive him to
Nosferatu's evil dwelling place

The coach it rocked over stony paths
Shaking up the frightened man
The horses mouths were flecked with spume
The driver whipped them on and on

Inside the Castle

The great black door open wide
Nosferatu stands inside
Welcoming Harker to his home
A greeting that would end in pain

'You are expected' he doth speak
White faced red lipped long pointy nails
A vampyre fed on human blood
Eyes looked at Harper with great lust

Blood from Cut Finger

Table with food and wine is set
Harker his fill doth eat
Wolves outside they howl
Children of the night music
A slip and Harker cuts his thumb
The vampyre's body shakes
Takes Harker's thumb in his mouth
And sucks and sucks with glee

Lucy's fears

In his bed chamber Harker sleeps
Lucy wakes with a great start
She senses evil has its way
With her beloved husband
A bat across her window climbs

Next morning Harker wakes
A smorgasbord of food awaits
No-one in sight
Long passageways he doth traverse
Looking for his bedchamber once again
Overlooking mountains valleys too

Mark of Dracula

He finds two holes upon his neck
Marks the vampyre left behind
When up the stairs he crept
Biting his neck whilst he slept

Outside a barefoot boy on violin scrapes
A mournful dirge
Looks up he does and sees
Harker at his window there
Trying to find a way out
To leave this terrible place

Werner Herzog a great director of the 70's made this movie with Klaus KInski one of the most important German actors of all times. The doleful music is by Wagner from his Rheingold and is a subtle background to the movie itself. This is a deliciously dark movie.....enjoy...

A visitation from hell...

Dead bodies line the crumbling walls along the passageways
Faces stretched in pain frightened mouths non seeing eyes do stare
Their fate has been a dreary one
Their blood sucked dry till all was gone
Drums sound their dolorous dirge

BIg beautiful eyes open so wide
Lucy into her lover's arms does sink
Her nightmare vivid as can be
A great bat flying through the clouds she sees
And dread enters her heart

Harker this cannot believe a matter of fact man is he
He dresses for the day kisses Lucy farewell
Across the bridge he strides away from his newly married bride

Harker to leave for Transylvania

To his office he does arrive where crazy Renfield hoots and giggles like the madman that he is
Tells Harker off to Transylvania he immediately must leave
Count Dracula to sign the papers property to buy
A crumbling building not too far from Harker's LIsbon home
He knows not of the dangers that lie ahead and so agrees
Leaving fair Lucy in care of his good friends

But first the two sweet lovers along side of the sea do walk
White and grey the waters deep the sand a shining golden hue
Dont go dont go she cries to him
I fear fear for you my love only evil can come of this

The gulls they scream high in the sky
The wind doth blow below

The arrival in Transylvania

Then they do bid a fair adieu and off Harker he does go
Clip clop his horse's hooves ring on rain sleeked cobbled streets
Under the archway he disappears and lost from sight is he

He travels far across the land
Fields and forests along the way
Great fir trees rear above grassy slopes
Snow tipped mountains come into view

The weary traveller finds at last a country inn
Transylvania the country now he in
Gypsies run to greet but turned away are they
The inn keeper much to say has he

Lore of the Living Dead

On wooden table Harker bangs his hand
Bring me food and drink for I must away
To Castle Dracula before end of day
The tavern grows quiet with the dread of men
Who fear the living dead

No No you must not go when darkness comes
It hides the terrors of the night
Wolves bats and spirits of them who died most terribly

no one would show him the way

The innkeepers wife brings him a book on vampyre lore
Together with a chain and cross around his neck to wear

Harker walks to Castle Dracula

Early next morning Harker sets out to walk the mountain slopes
Up to the ruined Castle Dracula set high upon a hill

And just as the sun begins to wane
Appears a carriage dark drapes the windows frame
Drawn by black horses feathery plumes atop their heads do wave

To take him to the vampyre's lair and leave him there

On the great iron nailed door he bangs and open wide it turns
And there stands a white white corpse his red red mouth
A constant sore from all the blood he has imbibed

He welcomes Harker in and to a table does lead him
To dine and wine and then to sleep

his blood to drink
